Plot summary
Being too good at his job costs Nicholas Angel. The Metropolitan Police Sergeant is transferred out of London to Sandford, Gloucestershire, where the Neighbourhood Watch Alliance keeps a close eye on the crime statistics. On his first night in the village he arrests Danny Butterman for drunk driving, and the next morning learns that Danny is a police constable and the son of Inspector Frank Butterman. Angel finds the station's officers uninterested in the job he takes seriously. He and Danny stop two of the village's amateur actors, Martin Blower and Eve Draper, for speeding, and then residents begin dying in what look like accidents.

Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Hot Fuzz (2007)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- While filming in their police uniforms, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were repeatedly mistaken for real officers, and passers-by asked them for directions.
- Wells Cathedral was digitally painted out of every shot of the city, because director Edgar Wright wanted the Church of St Cuthbert to be the center building of the fictional town of Sandford; the Bishop's Palace is still visible in some shots, and was itself used as a setting.
- For the gas explosion that destroys the mansion, gas mortars were placed in front of the building to create large-scale fireballs, then fired upwards into a black ceiling piece sloping towards the camera; shot at high speed, the flames appeared to surge across the ground.
- The film's most time-consuming gore sequence, a character's head being crushed by a section of a church, used a dummy against a green screen, with the head detonated at the moment the object was about to hit the body.
- Robert Rodriguez scored the scenes of Nicholas Angel at a convenience store, leaving Sandford and returning to the police station to arm for the final shootout, writing the music without seeing the rest of the film.
- Nick Frost agreed to play Simon Pegg's partner in Hot Fuzz only on the condition that he could name his character himself, and he chose Danny Butterman.
- In the scene where Nicholas Angel leaps over four garden fences in a row, Simon Pegg vaulted three of them himself and a stunt man did a back flip over the fourth.
- Edgar Wright and Simon Pegg spent eighteen months writing the script, watching 138 cop-related films for dialogue and plot ideas and conducting more than fifty interviews with police officers, finishing it after a further nine months.
