Collins got her breakthrough when she took the part of a juvenile delinquent in the 1952 film I Believe in You. The role was prominent and drew wide publicity.
A role that slipped away
The title role in Cleopatra had originally been intended for Collins, but Elizabeth Taylor was cast instead, and in 1960 this helped turn her against 20th Century Fox.
A role that slipped away
That year, Collins took the starring part of Evelyn Nesbit in The Girl in the Red Velvet Swing, acting with Ray Milland and Farley Granger. The role had been meant for Marilyn Monroe, but trouble between Monroe and Fox gave Collins the chance.
