Did you know?!

  1. Big break

Saunders responded to a 1980 advertisement in The Stage newspaper that sought female comedians for The Comic Strip, which had only male performers until then. At the audition, she was told right away that she was booked and asked when she could begin.

  2. Getting ready for a role

In Shrek 2, the 2004 animated film, Saunders supplied the voice for the Fairy Godmother. She recorded her part in just four days and performed two songs, "The Fairy Godmother Song" and "Holding Out for a Hero".

  3. A first

Saunders took part in the "Star in a Reasonably Priced Car" segment on BBC Two's Top Gear. Her lap of 1:46.1s made her the fifth-quickest guest ever in the car used then.
