Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Jack Hawkins died shortly after his scenes were filmed as Dr Nicholas. His larynx had been removed in 1966, so his voice was dubbed by Charles Gray, and the film was both his final screen appearance and the last film of Frank Forsyth, who played Uncle Albert.
- Freddie Francis said he had taken the film as far away from horror as he could; when financier Frank Yablans saw it he said it was not a horror film, and on being told it was not a horror script replied, "Oh Jesus I don't read scripts."
- Kim Novak broke a four-year hiatus from films with her appearance in Tales That Witness Madness, replacing Rita Hayworth shortly after production started.
