George Wendt
Biography
George Wendt was an American actor who got his start at The Second City in Chicago, where he was part of the 1975 company. In 1982 he took his first regular television part, on the CBS sitcom Making the Grade, and that same year he began playing Norm Peterson on Cheers. He stayed with the show through 1993, appeared in all 275 episodes, and earned six Primetime Emmy Award nominations for supporting actor in a comedy. He later headlined his own short-lived series, The George Wendt Show. His film work included Somewhere in Time (1980), No Small Affair (1984), Fletch (1985), Gung Ho (1986), Guilty by Suspicion (1991), Forever Young (1992), Man of the House (1995), Outside Providence (1999), and The Climb (2020). On Broadway he played Edna Turnblad in Hairspray in 2008.
