Biography
Gedde Watanabe is an American actor who began on the stage, joining the original Broadway cast of Stephen Sondheim's Pacific Overtures in 1976 and originating the parts of Priest, Girl, and The Boy. Born and raised in Ogden, Utah, he performed in high school dramatic productions, then moved to San Francisco and worked as a street musician while building his acting skills. His first screen work came in The Long Island Four in 1980. He became widely known as Long Duk Dong in Sixteen Candles (1984) and starred in Gung Ho (1986) and its television spinoff. He also played Kuni in UHF (1989), appeared as Hiroshi on Sesame Street from 1988 to 1991, and had a recurring role as nurse Yosh Takata on ER from 1997 to 2003. He voiced Ling in Mulan (1998) and Mulan II (2004), and voiced Japanese characters on The Simpsons.
