Plot summary
Dr. Daniel Jekyll performs brain surgery at Our Lady of Pain and Suffering Hospital in Los Angeles, where medical students watch. Hubert Howes, the world's richest man, follows the operation from his hospital bed and wants Jekyll for the first total transplant, threatening to blow up the hospital if it does not happen. Dr. Carew, the hospital's overseer and Jekyll's future father-in-law, tells him the marriage to Mary Carew is off unless he complies. In the charity ward, Mary Carew complains that Jekyll missed their lunch date, and Dr. Knute Lanyon flirts with her. A patient, nightclub performer Ivy Venus, invites Jekyll to her club. Working late on two white powders, Jekyll falls asleep and inhales them by accident.

- The film owes its existence to a threatened strike. In spring 1981, with a Directors Guild of America walkout looming, Paramount's Michael Eisner and Barry Diller rushed several low-budget films into production, and Eisner personally picked this one along with White Dog and I'm Dancing as Fast as I Can.
