Plot summary
Sean Crawley, a young drifter in suburban Los Angeles, can barely keep up with his bills. Painting a house, he meets the electrician Duke Wayne, who a few days later offers him work and introduces him to Ray Matthews, a real estate developer under investigation by an accountant named Eric Gatley. Ray pays Sean a little money to trail Eric and report on his movements, and while watching the Gatley house at night Sean develops a crush on Eric's wife, Susan. Ray then offers Sean thirteen thousand dollars to kill Eric. Sean accepts and carries out the killing, taking documents from the scene before he leaves.
