Sidney Bracey
Biography
Sidney Bracey was an Australian-born American actor. Born in Melbourne, the son of a Welsh tenor and an English actress, he began on stage in his home country in the 1890s, touring in comic opera with J. C. Williamson's companies. He went on to play leading tenor roles in London and New York, taking the part of Yussuf when The Rose of Persia had its American premiere at Daly's Theatre, and creating a role in The Toreador at the Gaiety Theatre in London, and joining the D'Oyly Carte tour of The Emerald Isle, while also taking straight roles in Shakespeare. From 1909 he acted in more than 320 films, silent and sound, known for character parts as figures of authority, among them directors, bosses and, most often, respectable butlers. Early on he made dozens of films for the Thanhouser Company and co-wrote and directed the silent Sid Nee's Finish (1914), playing its title role. He also performed in vaudeville.
