Plot summary
Jeffrey Haywood wants to marry Virginia Embrey, who will not wed until her older sister Angelica marries first, for fear Angelica will be left an old maid. Angelica, in turn, considers every man she knows too tame to bother with. After his car strikes mild-mannered Reggie Irving, Jeff brings the timid stranger to the Embrey mansion to recover and tells Angelica he is a wealthy playboy chased from Europe's playgrounds. Women hired by Jeff visit and quarrel over Reggie, and Angelica is intrigued. Reggie, who has no experience with women, is alarmed and tries to slip away. Jeff asks Polly, a society journalist, to coach Reggie in courting women, and takes rooms at the Seaside Hotel so that Angelica can catch the two of them together.
