Plot summary
Timoleon Zanders Post teaches Classics at Potts College and has spent a sheltered life inside academia. His assistant Jenkins decides the professor ought to see more of the real world, so he tricks him into thinking he has inherited $750,000, enough to leave the college at last. Post boards a train for New York City. On it he meets James, who manages a dancing troupe booked to play in Fish's Switch. Post is drawn to Pansy Peets, one of the dancers. Trying to learn her name, he steps off the train at Fish's Switch by mistake.
