Plot summary
Robert Merrick, a spoiled playboy, owes his life to the one pulmotor at a hospital. That same machine is needed by Dr. Hudson, a surgeon who gives his skill and money to others, and while it is in use on Merrick the older man dies. Hudson's widow, Helen, blames Merrick for the loss of her husband. Merrick falls in love with her, and he tries to redeem himself for careless behavior that cost a great man his life. A friend of Hudson tells him of the surgeon's rule for living, to help people in secret so that no one knows who gave the help.
