Plot summary
Valentine Ransome, a Texan, spends the night in Jonathan Blair's mansion after he has been out drinking, and he wakes with little memory of the evening and almost no knowledge of her. She is drawn to him and decides to reform him first, then marry him, telling her horse-breaking uncle Sam that she means to gentle him as she would a horse. Carol Wallace, an actress and Jonathan's girlfriend, stands in her way. Jonathan also learns that his family's shipping firm is near bankruptcy and that his usual check will not arrive, leaving him broke. She sees the news as a chance to spark his ambition.
