Plot summary
Captain Hugh Drummond is a British officer engaged to Phyllis Clavering, and he intends to marry her in Switzerland. While driving with his friend Algy Longworth and his valet Tenny, he is the first to find a suitcase dropped by parachute from an aircraft overhead, minutes before that plane crashes. The case holds hexanite, a highly explosive chemical, and the formula for it has been stolen. The discovery delays the wedding plans, and Drummond is pulled into the mystery around the theft, traveling by train and by ship to recover the formula. Colonel Nielson, a friend of Drummond's, serves with Scotland Yard.
