Regina Hall
Biography
Regina Hall is an American actress known for comedy and drama. Born in Washington, D.C., she studied communications at Fordham University and journalism at New York University, then began her screen career with the soap opera Loving and guest spots on New York Undercover. Her first film role came as Candy in The Best Man (1999), a character she returned to in The Best Man Holiday. She gained notice as Brenda Meeks across the Scary Movie series, beginning with Scary Movie (2000). Other credits include Love & Basketball (2000) and Think Like a Man (2012), as well as Girls Trip (2017), The Hate U Give (2018) and One Battle After Another (2025). She starred on television in Ally McBeal, Law & Order: LA, and Black Monday, and her lead in Support the Girls (2018) won her the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress, a first for an African-American performer. She cohosted the 94th Academy Awards in 2022.

Behind the award
Hall's work in Support the Girls earned her the New York Film Critics Circle Award for Best Actress in 2018, and she was the first African-American to win it.
First role
Hall said her very first movie was the one where she met Sanaa Lathan, and the two of them made Love and Basketball together, which became her second film. She had never been on a set before.

Hall's entertainment career began with a guest spot on the track "The Interview," which appeared on Sadat X's 1996 album Wild Cowboys.
Behind the camera
Hall founded her production company RH Negative, which signed a first-look deal with Showtime in 2020 and a six-film deal with ViacomCBS months later.
