Plot summary
Harper Stewart's debut novel made his name, but that was years ago. He cannot finish another book, he has lost his teaching job, and the money troubles have all been kept from Robyn, his wife, who is nearly nine months pregnant after years of fertility treatments. Mia Sullivan, Lance's wife, invites the old college crowd to their home for Christmas. Harper's agent suggests a biography of Lance, the football star about to retire, and Harper agrees in secret. Julian Murchison runs a school with Candace Sparks as head of admissions. Jordan Armstrong, her boyfriend Brian McDonald, Quentin Spivey and Shelby Taylor are also among the guests.
