Biography

Lucien Littlefield was an American actor whose career ran from the silent era into the early years of television. Born in San Antonio, Texas, he began making movies in 1913 and kept acting until 1960. Though young, he often played supporting comedic parts as men older than himself. The doctor he played in The Cat and the Canary (1927) ranks among his better known performances, and he was Mary Pickford's father in My Best Girl (1927). He appeared with Laurel and Hardy in Dirty Work and in Sons of the Desert (1933), the latter as a veterinarian. Other credits include the western Tumbleweeds (1925) with William S. Hart, Ruggles of Red Gap (1935) with Charles Laughton, and Johnny Come Lately (1943) with James Cagney. On television he was an eccentric inventor in an early Adventures of Superman episode, The Runaway Robot, and he also turned up in 1950s programs including Blondie, Lassie, Dragnet, and Peter Gunn. He died in 1960.
