Dale Evans

Biography

Dale Evans, an American actress, singer and songwriter, began her career as a radio vocalist and went on to star in western films. Born in Uvalde, Texas, and raised in Italy, Texas, she sang and played piano on Memphis radio stations, and she adopted the stage name Dale Evans while at a Louisville station. Her work as a singer of jazz, swing and big band material brought a screen test and a contract with 20th Century Fox, and she was at one point the featured vocalist on the Edgar Bergen and Charlie McCarthy program. At Republic Studios she became the cowgirl co-star of Roy Rogers, and the pair appeared together in Home in Oklahoma (1946) and starred in The Roy Rogers Show from 1951 to 1957. She also wrote Happy Trails, and late in 1962 she and Rogers co-hosted a comedy, western and variety program. She died in 2001.
