Julia Faye
Biography
Julia Faye was an American actress whose career spanned silent films and the sound era. Born near Richmond, Virginia, and raised in St. Louis, she traveled to Hollywood in 1915 and began with bit parts before taking her first credited role as Dorothea in the 1915 adaptation of Don Quixote. She appeared in more than 30 films for Cecil B. DeMille, starting with The Woman God Forgot, and her roles included maids, ingénues, vamps and queens. Male and Female (1919) cast her as Gloria Swanson's maid, and she played the Wife of Pharaoh in The Ten Commandments (1923) and Martha in The King of Kings (1927). Chicago (1927) gave her the screen's first Velma. After a break she worked in nearly every DeMille picture from Union Pacific onward, among them Samson and Delilah (1949) and The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). She received a Hollywood Walk of Fame star for her contributions to film.
