Raymond Hatton
Biography
Raymond Hatton was an American film actor whose career spanned nearly 500 motion pictures. Born in Red Oak, Iowa, he turned to acting after a school play, leaving behind his physician father's plan for him to study medicine. He joined a vaudeville act that traveled to Hollywood in 1911, where he built a successful silent film career and was paired with Wallace Beery in comedies during the 1920s. When sound arrived, his roles grew smaller, and he often took supporting parts, including the tobacco-chewing Rusty Joslin in that Western B series, The Three Mesquiteers. In the 1950s his work expanded into television, with roles in several series such as Adventures of Superman. He had a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Hatton died in 1971.
