Biography

Carrie Fisher was an American actress and writer who played Princess Leia across the original Star Wars trilogy and returned to the part in The Force Awakens (2015) and, posthumously, in The Last Jedi (2017) and The Rise of Skywalker (2019), the last assembled from unused footage. Born in Beverly Hills in 1956, she made her film debut in Shampoo (1975) and later appeared in The Blues Brothers (1980), Hannah and Her Sisters (1986), The 'Burbs (1989), When Harry Met Sally... (1989) and The Women (2008). Her novel Postcards from the Edge became a bestseller, and she wrote the screenplay for its film version, earning a BAFTA nomination. Her one-woman show Wishful Drinking brought an Emmy nomination, and she was nominated twice for a Primetime Emmy for guest roles on 30 Rock and Catastrophe. She also spent years as an uncredited script doctor.
