Did you know?!Facts and trivia about Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi (1983)
Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Kenny Baker was cast as the Ewok Wicket, but he fell ill with food poisoning on the day of the shoot and was replaced by Warwick Davis, who had never acted in a film before.
- Return of the Jedi shot under the fake title Blue Harvest, with the tagline "Horror Beyond Imagination", to hide the production from fans and the press and to stop service providers from price gouging.
- Marvel Super Special #27, the comic adaptation, was released by mistake in April 1983, a month before the film, giving away the plot; Mark Hamill found a copy in a store and alerted Lucasfilm, which recalled the comic.
- Garrett Brown, the inventor of the Steadicam, filmed the Endor forest plates himself at less than one frame per second; walking at about 5 mi/h and projecting the footage at 24 frames per second made the motion look like roughly 120 mi/h.
- Harrison Ford was not contracted for two sequels the way Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were, so Han Solo was frozen in carbonite in The Empire Strikes Back because the filmmakers were unsure the character would return; producer Howard Kazanjian ultimately convinced Ford to come back.
- The Ewok battle on Endor, in which small creatures with primitive weapons fight Imperial troops, was inspired by the Vietnam War, during which the Viet Cong prevailed against the technologically superior United States.
- George Lucas' first choice to direct was Steven Spielberg, but their separate feuds with the Directors Guild of America got Spielberg banned from the film. David Lynch then turned the job down, believing Lucas should direct his own creation.
