Plot summary
The First Order, grown from the remains of the Galactic Empire three decades after the Battle of Endor, seeks to destroy the New Republic. Leia Organa leads the Resistance against it and searches for her lost twin brother, Luke Skywalker. On the desert planet Jakku, the pilot Poe Dameron gets a map to Luke's location, and Kylo Ren's stormtroopers capture him. Poe's droid BB-8 escapes with the map and meets Rey, a scavenger. A disillusioned stormtrooper helps Poe flee in a stolen TIE fighter.

- Harrison Ford fractured his leg at Pinewood Studios when a hydraulic door on the Millennium Falcon set fell on him, and production was shut down for two weeks; J. J. Abrams said Ford's ankle bent to a 90-degree angle.
