Richard Erdman
Biography
Richard Erdman was an American character actor who worked in more than 160 film and television productions from 1944 to 2017, largely in supporting parts. Born in Enid, Oklahoma, and raised in Colorado Springs, Colorado, he was encouraged toward Hollywood by a stage director. Early parts in Mr. Skeffington and Janie led to steady character work, most famously as barracks chief Hoffy in Stalag 17 (1953) and Colonel Edward F. French in Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970). He appeared in The Men (1950) and Cry Danger (1951), played McNulty in a Twilight Zone episode and several roles on Perry Mason, and contributed voice work to animated series including DuckTales and Batman: The Animated Series. He directed the 1971 TV film Mooch Goes to Hollywood, and from 2009 to 2015 had a recurring role as Leonard on Community. He died in 2019.
