Plot summary
Pete Wilson plays quarterback for a professional team and gives little thought to a life after football, even after the team lets his longtime teammate Bill "Holly" Holloran go. Pete draws one advance on his salary after another from Anne, Lenahan's secretary. He goes secretly to a doctor about symptoms he has been having and learns that a childhood bout of rheumatic fever has left him with a heart condition that could kill him if he keeps playing. He begins to tell his wife Liza, then changes his mind. Liza is trying to build her own interior design business and brings Pete to a party where she hopes to sign Gilbert Vollmer as a client.

- In November 1949 screenwriters John Stone and Frederick Bond sued RKO, its story editor and Irwin Shaw for $150,000, claiming Easy Living was based on their story Never Say Die, which they had submitted to the studio in 1947.

Easy Living was originally meant to end with Victor Mature's character leaving his wife for Lucille Ball's character, but the script was rewritten during filming so that Mature stayed with his wife.- RKO announced in May 1948 that Jane Greer and Robert Mitchum would play the leads, but neither of them ended up in the finished film.
