Plot summary
Michael O'Toole is a gambler and con artist who leaves a town after cheating at poker. His younger brother Timothy, a womanizer, has angered McClanahan by romancing his daughter Bonnie Lou. The brothers meet and find their way to Molybdenum, a poor Colorado mining town. A passing geologist once told the residents that only worthless molybdenum remained in the mine, so they store their share certificates away or use them to paper walls. Timothy befriends Callie Burdyne and her brother Gurnie. Sheriff Ed Hatfield mistakes Michael for the outlaw Desperate Ambrose Littleberry and jails him.

- The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees sued the production company CVD for filming The Brothers O'Toole with a partially non-union crew while the union emblem appeared in the film's release, and the emblem was removed from all copies.
- Producer Charles Sellier, then 30, personally supervised the entire location shoot and said the film faked nothing: rain scenes were done in a real downpour and mud scenes with everyone getting into the mud.
- The Brothers O'Toole was the first feature film shot by cinematographer Allen Daviau, who had worked only on short films before, among them Mooch Goes to Hollywood with director Richard Erdman.
