Plot summary
Steve Sinclair, a retired gunslinger, ranches in a small western community, renting his land from Dennis Deneen, the main landowner, and working with him to keep the peace. His younger brother Tony arrives with his girlfriend, Joan Blake, and a new six gun with a filed-down trigger that he shows off in quick-draw practice. A gunman from Steve's past, Larry Venables, comes looking for him, and Tony challenges him to a draw. Tony drinks and ignores Joan afterward; Steve tells him he was lucky, since few men were faster with a gun than Venables. Then a farmer, Clay Ellison, arrives to fence a strip of land he inherited and grow wheat on it. Tony tries to drive him off, Steve intervenes, and Ellison appeals to Deneen.
