Nia Long

Biography

Nia Long, born in Brooklyn, is an American actress who built a career largely in black cinema, breaking through as Brandi in Boyz n the Hood (1991). She went on to play Beulah Lisa Wilkes on The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air and Kat Speakes on the soap opera Guiding Light, and her film work includes Friday (1995), Love Jones (1997), Soul Food (1997), The Best Man (1999), Boiler Room (2000) and Big Momma's House (2000). She reprised her Best Man role in The Best Man Holiday (2013) and played Katherine Jackson in Michael (2026). On television she was Sasha Monroe on Third Watch and later appeared on Empire and NCIS: Los Angeles, and she starred in the Netflix thriller Fatal Affair (2020). Her honors include an NAACP Image Award in 2004 for Third Watch, along with a Black Reel Award.
