Plot summary

In one house, three stories unfold across different decades. In 1961 Edith and Abby have shared the home for 30 years; when Abby suffers a stroke, hospital staff turn Edith away because she is not family, and Abby's nephew Ted, her only living relative, arrives. In 1972 Linda and three friends, all lesbians, helped found a campus feminist group, but the other women will not take up lesbian issues. At a lesbian bar Linda meets Amy, a butch woman her friends laugh at, and stays behind to dance with her. In 2000 Fran and Kal want a baby; a gay couple will not promise to stay out of the child's life, so they turn to an anonymous donor company and Kal is upset she cannot get Fran pregnant herself.
