Can contain spoilers, watch the movie first.
- Billy Porter, the least-known actor in the cast at the time, won the role of Taylor by imbuing the character with heart and something real in his audition.
- Dean Cain took a role in the film against the wishes of his agents, who had warned him against playing a gay character.
- Berlanti wrote the film about his own circle of friends, and the Howie/Marshall storyline is semi-autobiographical, drawn from a relationship he once had.
- Kerr Smith, who knew Berlanti as the showrunner of Dawson's Creek, liked the script so much that he asked to be in the film, which gave him a cameo.
