James Anderson
Biography
James Anderson was an American actor who worked mostly in television and film during the 1950s and 1960s. Born in Wetumpka, Alabama, he spent a year studying acting at the University of Alabama before moving to Los Angeles. There he trained under Max Reinhardt for six months and appeared in the play Zero Hour, then signed with Warner Bros. in November 1940. He made more than 120 appearances between 1941 and 1969, mostly on television and in films. He appeared in a number of westerns, often as an outlaw or hired gun. He was best remembered for playing Bob E. Lee Ewell in To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). His television work included three appearances on Perry Mason, an episode of Gunsmoke in 1963, and Alfred Hitchcock Presents. He also played the main antagonist in Sanctuary at Crystal Springs, a 1963 episode of The Dakotas that was controversial and led to the series' cancellation. He died in 1969.
