Plot summary
Paul Montgomery and his wife Jennifer, an heiress, are wealthy Upper East Side socialites who amuse themselves with elaborate parlor tricks and social games for their friends at their townhouse. Lisa Schindler, an older German woman, comes to the door selling cosmetics and nearly faints; Jennifer agrees she should stay the night. The pair grow fond of their guest, who claims psychic abilities, and Jennifer asks her to set up games for their amusement. Lisa devises scenes of manufactured domestic discord for the couple to react to, including a phony affair in which Jennifer is found with Norman, the grocery deliveryman. Paul is furious to find Norman in the bedroom until Lisa appears and shows the scene was a trick.

- Curtis Harrington wrote the role of Lisa in Games with Marlene Dietrich in mind, but the producers vetoed the idea and Simone Signoret was cast instead; Signoret took the part after watching Harrington's 1961 film Night Tide.
