David Ogden Stiers
Biography
David Ogden Stiers was an American actor and conductor. He began on the stage, originating Feldman in The Magic Show on Broadway in 1974, and in 1977 he took the role of Major Charles Emerson Winchester III on the sitcom MASH, playing it until the show ended in 1983 and earning two Emmy nominations for it. In a string of Perry Mason television movies he was the district attorney Michael Reston, and he also voiced many Disney characters, including Cogsworth in Beauty and the Beast (1991), Governor Ratcliffe and Wiggins in Pocahontas (1995), the Archdeacon in The Hunchback of Notre Dame (1996) and Jumba Jookiba in Lilo & Stitch (2002) and its sequels. His other voice work included Kamaji in the English dub of Spirited Away and Mr. Piccolo in Porco Rosso. He had a recurring part on The Dead Zone from 2002 to 2007 and conducted the Newport Symphony Orchestra.

Early training
Stiers was spotted by John Houseman while performing in California, and Houseman invited him to New York to study at the Juilliard School in its Drama Division.
A change of course
Stiers lacked formal musical training, yet he served as associate conductor of the Newport Symphony Orchestra in Oregon and helped establish the group. He also guest-conducted more than 70 orchestras around the world.
First role
Stiers's first work was in THX 1138, one of George Lucas's earliest films, and his credit there misspelled his name as "David Ogden Steers".
Early training
While he was a student at Juilliard, Stiers would miss his acting classes so he could attend master classes taught by John Williams, Pierre Boulez and Sir Georg Solti.
