Plot summary
Not long after the Beast rescues Belle from the wolves, the castle servants prepare for Christmas, but the Beast refuses to join in. The holiday marks the night the enchantress cast her spell. Belle decides to celebrate anyway and teaches the Beast to skate in the courtyard. She asks Angelique, the castle's decorator who became an angel ornament, for help, and with Chip she searches for a Christmas tree. The trees on the grounds are small. Meanwhile Forte, a pipe organ and former music conductor, wants the spell to stay unbroken, so he sends his piccolo minion Fife to disrupt Belle's plans.

- The film was first planned as a direct sequel with a new villain, Avenant, Gaston's younger brother, named for the antagonist of the 1946 French live-action Beauty and the Beast, who used sorcery to turn the prince back into a Beast. Avenant was cut from the story, but his traits went to Forte, the pipe organ.
- Rachel Portman composed the score and Don Black wrote the lyrics, the first time in history that a Disney animated feature film had been scored by a woman.
- Forte, the pipe-organ villain who did not want the Beast to become human again, was, unlike every other character in the film, entirely computer animated.
- With additional animation by Walt Disney Television Animation Australia and Taiwan's Wang Film Productions, the film became Disney's first direct-to-video animated film to use digital ink and paint.
