Plot summary
Jerry Landers works as an assistant manager at a supermarket and does not practice a religion. A note arrives in his mail offering him an interview with God; he takes it for a hoax and throws it out, but it keeps coming back, and he goes. God shows himself as a gentle old man and says Jerry has been picked to carry his message to the modern world, the way Moses once did. Jerry tells Bobbie, his wife, his children, and a religion editor at the Los Angeles Times about the meetings. The attention makes him a national figure, and theologians set out to discredit him.
