Plot summary
In New York City, Michael Cromwell works as a commodities broker and wants to marry his fiancée, Charlotte. That requires a divorce from Patricia, the first wife who left him years earlier and now lives with a tribe in Venezuela's Canaima National Park. Michael flies there for her signature. Patricia tells him she had not known she was pregnant when she left, and that they have a thirteen-year-old son, Mimi-Siku. Michael tries to bond with the boy and promises he can visit New York City once he becomes a man. That night, Mimi-Siku completes the tribe's rite of passage and is considered a man. The tribal elder then gives him a task: to fetch flame from the Statue of Liberty and become the next chief. Michael reluctantly takes Mimi-Siku with him to New York City.
