Plot summary
Arch Strobie owns a cattle ranch in Colorado and raised Owen Daybright there as a foster son beside his own boy, Lee. Owen works as the ranch foreman, and Lee has married Jen. Word comes that Lily Fasken has given birth, and Owen rides out with food and money for her. He finds Jen and Lily's brother Dick at Lily's place; Dick has been trying to learn who the baby's father is. Jen asks Owen to name the father, and he stays silent. Dick takes Owen for the father, though Jen refuses to believe it. Lee thanks Owen for his help and admits he cannot own up to the child because Jen would not understand. Dick draws a gun on Owen, and the sheriff arrives.
