Plot summary
In 1873, gunfighter Clint Cooper comes back to Shelby, Montana, the town he left two years earlier in disgrace after killing two of its young men in self-defense. Their father, Tom Morrison, believes Cooper murdered them. Cooper intends to settle on his late father's ranch and marry Helen, the schoolteacher. On his way he meets his old gang, led by Spangler, who plans to rob Shelby and burn it. Spangler wants Cooper with him. Cooper breaks free, killing two of the men chasing him, and reaches town, where the young men are away on a cattle drive.
