Plot summary
Steve Rawley is a prisoner paying for a Christmas Eve holdup at a factory, and the $130,000 he took from it is hidden somewhere. Offered experimental brain surgery meant to strip the criminal side out of him, he accepts, and is paroled into the care of Dr. Marston. The surgeon warns insurance investigator Jawald that a successful operation will leave Steve with no memory of his past; he will believe a car accident erased it. Jawald, who heard of the case from a police acquaintance, wants the hiding place from Steve himself. Before Steve is released, three former partners, Lefty, Arnie and Cookie, seize him at the facility, and he says he does not recognize them. At an apartment, Peg, described as his girlfriend, greets him, and he says she is a stranger.
