Plot summary
Eve Barrett refuses Joe Backett's offer of a partnership in the Neptune swimsuit company, then accepts once she considers the publicity it could bring. Joe hears that a polo team from South America is coming to town for a match, so he and Eve plan a swimming spectacle around it. Eve's sister Betty, who shares her house, is eager to date one of the players. The team's captain, Jose O'Rourke, has an injured arm treated by Jack Spratt, a masseur who complains about his luck with women. Jose tells him to speak Spanish to them. Betty mistakes Jack for Jose, and Jack lets her think it. Eve meets the real Jose and tells him to stay away from Betty.

- Mel Blanc voiced the character Pancho with a high-pitched, exaggerated Mexican accent, and four years later he recycled that voice for the Warner Bros. cartoon character Speedy Gonzales.
- "Baby, It's Cold Outside" was not planned for the film: it replaced Frank Loesser's "Slow Boat to China," which the Hays Office thought inappropriate, though "Slow Boat" was still used as underscoring in the fashion show scene.
- Esther Williams discovered she was pregnant with her first child with her husband Ben Gage early into shooting the film.
