Sam Flint
Biography
Sam Flint was an American actor whose career ran to more than 200 films. He was born Samuel A. Ethridge in Gwinnett County, Georgia, and first pursued the theater, performing in many dramatic plays. By 1933 he belonged to the Los Angeles cast of the hit play The Drunkard, using his real name, Sam Ethridge, and his film work began at Monogram Pictures, a small independent company. W. C. Fields arranged for Paramount Pictures to sign several actors from that production, and Ethridge kept making movies while most of the others went back to the stage. As Sam Flint he was typecast as authority figures, among them judges, doctors, military officers, bankers, ship's captains, lawyers, racetrack stewards and senior officials. He became known for Charlie Chan mysteries, the adventure serial The Phantom, the Three Stooges short Micro-Phonies, and It's a Wonderful Life. His final film was Head (1968), the satirical feature with the Monkees. He died in 1980.
