SPOILER
Frank Capra became dissatisfied with the happy ending of Broadway Bill while filming at Tanforan Race Track, so he invited former Paramount screenwriter Sidney Buchman to rewrite it; Buchman wrote four pages killing off the horse and adding a funeral, finishing hours before the final race scene was shot, and was never credited.- Frank Capra wanted Clark Gable for the lead of Broadway Bill but Gable was unavailable, so he settled for Warner Baxter, whose fear of horses restricted close-up scenes; Capra vowed to remake the film with an actor who loved horses and did so with Bing Crosby in Riding High (1950).
