Plot summary
Professor Franz Mueller runs a laboratory of his own design in a castle in the Arizona desert, where he studies the human brain and holds that it can be kept alive after the body dies and that its knowledge can pass to another person. He is helped by a fellow scientist, Patrick Cory, and by his young ward, Janice Farrell. Mueller is in love with Janice and knows that she and Cory are drawn to each other, so he assigns Cory late-night work to keep them apart. A plane crashes near the castle, and the only survivor, the investment banker William H. Donovan, dies before a physician reaches him. Mueller and Cory remove the brain and keep it alive with Mueller's instruments while Donovan's widow and her lawyer come for the body.
