Helen Vinson
Biography
Helen Vinson was an American screen actress. She was born in Beaumont, Texas, and was a student at the University of Texas at Austin before taking up acting with a Houston theater, where March Culmore taught her. She soon won lead roles there and then worked on Broadway in plays such as Los Angeles, Death Takes a Holiday, Berlin and The Fatal Alibi, which led to a Warner Bros. contract. Her first film was Jewel Robbery (1932), with William Powell and Kay Francis. Vinson often played the other woman in pre-Code pictures. She was Doris Delafield in The Kennel Murder Case (1933), the wife of Gary Cooper's character in The Wedding Night (1935), and a treacherous friend in In Name Only (1939). Later credits included Enemy Agent (1940), as a federal agent, and The Thin Man Goes Home (1944). Her film career ended in 1945, and her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame was at 1560 Vine Street.
