Plot summary
Gotham City's former district attorney Harvey Dent, scarred with acid by mobster Sal Maroni, now calls himself Two-Face, blames Batman for the courtroom attack and decides his crimes by flipping a coin. Edward Nygma, a researcher at Wayne Enterprises, brings Bruce Wayne a device that sends television signals straight into the brain; Bruce refuses it, fearing the technology could control minds. Nygma resigns and sends Bruce riddles. Psychologist Chase Meridian, who takes an interest in Bruce, joins him at a circus, where Two-Face demands that Batman reveal his identity. The attack leaves young acrobat Dick Grayson without his family, and Bruce takes him into Wayne Manor as his ward.

- Schumacher and Kilmer clashed during the making of the film. Schumacher described Kilmer as "childish and impossible", saying he fought with various crewmen and refused to speak to Schumacher for two weeks after the director told him to stop being rude.
- Jim Carrey said in a 2014 interview that Tommy Lee Jones was not friendly to him during filming, recounting an incident in which Jones told him: "I hate you. I really don't like you ... I cannot sanction your buffoonery."
- Robin Williams reportedly turned down the role that went to Jim Carrey in June 1994, said to be angry about the "bait-and-switch" used to try to manipulate Jack Nicholson into taking the role of the Joker in 1989's Batman. Williams publicly demanded an apology from the studio.
- Jose Fernandez sculpted the nipples on the Batsuits, taking his inspiration from Roman armor. Schumacher wanted them pointier and Fernandez did not want to do it, but he went along because Schumacher was "the boss".
- The film grossed $52.8 million in its opening weekend, taking Jurassic Park's record for the highest opening-weekend gross of all time, a mark surpassed two years later by The Lost World: Jurassic Park's $72.1 million.
- An independent Los Angeles theater announced in May 2025 that it would screen the workprint of the director's cut later that month, but on May 24 the screening was canceled following a cease and desist letter from Warner Bros.
