Plot summary
Attorney Laura Wells works in Livingston, Montana, where Fuller, a former worker disabled by a workplace injury, keeps coming to her office. He has already accepted a small settlement from his employer, and when Laura takes him to a second lawyer, that lawyer gives him the same answer she did. In the countryside, Gina and Ryan are building a house and hope to talk Albert, an elderly man they know, into letting them have a stack of sandstone blocks he keeps. Jamie, a ranch hand, tends horses alone outside Belfry through the winter. Following cars one night, she walks into an adult education class taught by Beth Travis, a young lawyer who drives four hours from Livingston twice a week to teach it.
