Biography

Dougray Scott is a Scottish actor who started out in national theater, television and puppet work. Born in Glenrothes, Fife, he studied drama at Kirkcaldy College and then at the Welsh College of Music and Drama in Cardiff. His stage breakthrough was in Unidentified Human Remains and the True Nature of Love. His first major film role came in the dark comedy Twin Town (1997), and his international breakthrough came as Prince Henry opposite Drew Barrymore in Ever After (1998). He was the villain in Mission: Impossible 2 (2000), the hero of Enigma (2001) and appeared in Ripley's Game (2002) with John Malkovich. Later films include Hitman (2007), My Week with Marilyn (2011), in which he played Arthur Miller, and Taken 3 (2014). He starred in Desperate Housewives and joined Batwoman as Jacob Kane, and won an International Emmy Award for Best Actor and a BAFTA Scotland Award for Crime (2021).

A role that slipped away
Scott turned down the role of Aragorn in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. He did not want to spend two years in New Zealand filming three movies back to back.

After Die Another Day came out in 2002, Scott was a candidate to take over as James Bond, and reports said Eon Productions leaned toward naming him for Casino Royale, but Daniel Craig got the part.

In 2001, Scott took the hero's part in the film version of the Robert Harris novel Enigma, and to grasp how code-breaking worked he sat down with leading mathematicians.
