Alexander Siddig

Biography

Alexander Siddig is a British actor and director who was born in Sudan and is best known for playing Dr. Julian Bashir in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine, a role he held for all seven seasons after Rick Berman cast him. He trained at LAMDA and worked in theater as an actor and director before his first television parts. His films include Vertical Limit (2000), Reign of Fire (2002), Kingdom of Heaven (2005), Syriana (2005), Hannibal (2006), Cairo Time (2009), Miral (2010) and Inescapable (2012), and he directed two episodes of Deep Space Nine. Cairo Time took the Best Canadian Feature Film prize at the Toronto International Film Festival in 2009. On television he played Hamri Al-Assad in 24, Doran Martell in Game of Thrones, Ra's al Ghul in Gotham and Philip Burton in Primeval.

Siddig's first acting role came at age 14, when he played King Tut without any lines in a BBC children's production.
Behind the camera
Once Deep Space Nine wrapped in 1999, Siddig took the director's chair for a movie centered on the Soviet Night Witches, but the project was never finished.
Early training
Before attending the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art, Siddig spent a year at University College London, where he studied geography and anthropology.
