Biography

John Doucette was an American character actor whose screen and television work spanned more than 280 productions from 1941 to 1987. Born in Brockton, Massachusetts, he first acted on stage at 15 in high school plays and later performed at the Pasadena Playhouse before Hollywood films came his way. His film debut came in an uncredited role as a reporter in Footsteps in the Dark in 1941, and after military service interrupted his career he resumed acting. Stocky and deep-voiced, he moved easily between Shakespearean plays, Westerns and modern crime dramas, though he became known for villainous tough-guy parts. In 1970 he played Gen. Lucian Truscott in Patton. He also appeared in the John Wayne film True Grit (1969). On television he was police lieutenant Tom Gregory on Big Town and Lieutenant Weston on Lock-Up from 1959 to 1961, and he appeared as Geronimo on Tombstone Territory.
