I Wouldn't Be in Your Shoes (1948) on Netflix

Plot summary

Ann Quinn supports herself and her husband Tom, an unemployed tap dancer, by working at a dance hall, where a customer she calls Santa Claus tips her well and keeps her late. One hot night, Tom throws his only pair of shoes out the window at meowing cats and cannot find them downstairs; the next morning Ann discovers the shoes at the front door and returns them to Tom. He then comes upon a wallet holding two thousand dollars in decades-old bills, and Ann persuades him to wait a week for a lost-and-found notice before he takes it to the police. After three days they spend part of the money. A reclusive neighbor is found murdered, his hidden cash gone, and Tom's shoe prints at the scene bring about his arrest.
